so here it is july 20th and i am still trying really hard to replace my car with the bicycle....it has been a while since my last post (it has been SUPER busy here at the radio station) and finally the dust is settling after freedom jam and the fireworks 5K....
i started this challenge on may 18th...and i stayed on that same tank of gas until the middle of june....and just this weekend i had to get into that 3rd tank....
my goal from the start was to use less than 3 full tanks of gas for the entire summer...so now i have to really buckle down and work hard at not spending this last tank too fast....i still have quite a bit of summer to go, and i cannot let this tank get empty too fast....at least not until october 1st....
i have been to many websites that talk about the cost of biking vs driving your car...i even put a link up to one of them...and honestly, it felt like those numbers were a bit inflated...but once you really start doing the math....the savings add up super quick....
i drive a sports car...so i only use shell v-power gas...and my car goes about 270 miles on 1 tank....each fill up costs me about $35.00....since may 18th i have only spent $105.00 in gas....not to mention, since i have only traveled a little over 500 miles in that time...i will not need an oil change until well into winter...
in a nutshell....my car will only cost me $105.00 for the entire summer (may-october)....when you start comparing that to the average car expense over 4-5 months you can really see the savings starting to add up....then when you get into all of the carbon emissions that were saved....it really starts to paint a picture...
i hope you will decide to join me...it's still not too late...and jump on that bike and enjoy a daily ride...and maybe save some money and the environment by leaving the car parked for a while...
get over to
cycling and fitness warehouse and see what you can find to get started....
see you on the road!
