Ivy Tech Community College 2009 Graduate, Kimora McCarthy-Haynes would like students and faculty to join her in walking with Team Brady/Richmond in Glenn Miller Park on September 18, 2010 Registration starts at 8:00 A.M. and the walk begins at 9:00 A.M.
Kimora had found out she was pregnant after graduation in May 2009. Being 18 weeks, in early August, Kimora had gotten news her son she was carrying, had a rare condition and one of the worst of birth defects called Anencephaly. Babies born with this defect either have none or hours to live after birth. Sometimes, it could even take days. However, the baby eventually passes.
Anencephaly is a condition present at birth that affects the formation of the brain and the skull bones that surround the head. Anencephaly results in only minimal development of the brain. Often, the brain lacks part or all of the cerebrum (the area of the brain that is responsible for thinking, vision, hearing, touch, and movement). There is no bony covering over the back of the head and there may also be missing bones around the front and sides of the head.
Kimora spent 4 days in labor and at exactly 20 weeks into her pregnancy, August 26, 2009 at 2:55 A.M., Brady Allen McCarthy was born and gone.
Please join Kimora and Team Brady/Richmond help March of Dimes organize more research to help fight Anencephaly and other birth defects as well as, Premature Awareness. hill_kimora@hotmail.com or khaynes1@ivytech.edu. or http://www.marchforbabies.org/team/t1363332
