The foundation of the peer-reviewed International Journal of Digital Curation (IJDC) in 2006 firmly established digital curation as an academic discipline.

The International Journal of Digital Curation is an international journal committed to scholarly excellence and dedicated to the advancement of digital curation across a wide range of sectors. ISSN: 1746-8256 The IJDC is published by UKOLN at the University of Bath and is a publication of the Digital Curation Centre. Digital curation has emerged as a new inter-disciplinary practice that seeks to set guidelines for disciplined management of information. In this paper we review two recent models for digital curation introduced by the Digital Curation Centre (DCC) of UK and the Digital Curation Unit (DCU) of the Athena Research Centre. He began by introducing the chapter in the DCC Digital Curation Manual on curating email. Maureen Pennock of the DCC, and author of the same chapter, talked about what an email actually is, and how it can contain information or can act as the 'envelope' with the main message carried as an attachment.
