Canon st-e3-rt manual

I shoot both Canon DSLR and Fuji X-E1 cameras and would love to use my ST-E3-RT transmitter with my Fujis. What's strange is that the Canon 600EX-RT will fire in manual mode from the X-E1 hot-shoe but the ST-E3-RT will not, even though they are both almost identical units.
