The problem with RCS dress code actually started with the revised dress code from last year. I received 3 phone calls last year at work asking me to bring my 6 year old son a different outfit because Thomas the Train, Bob the Builder, and Sponge Bob was not a part the the approved attire. Needless to say I refused because I could not understand how Disney was acceptable but the other characters were not. I was threatened with the suspension of my child. I called the administrative office two times and left messages. Not once was my call returned. I continued to send him in what I felt was appropriate clothing. Since the school did not want to suspend my son for wearing the PBS and Nick characters they instead made him turn his shirts wrong side out. I finally broke down and bought him new outfits that were acceptable in the eyes of the school board. These outfit consisted of Disney shirts but the majority was striped and plaid shirts. The the problem I have now is that my child has 2 drawers full of clothing that I made a point of buying last year to pacify the school board. This year I am absolutely broke. I have three children, one who I am putting through college, an ex-husband who is not paying support, I work full time yet I am on the verge of filing bankruptcy every day. I went to local consignment stores and was able to find him 4 shirts that were plain for $2 each but it really upsets me that he has so many other clothes that look so much nicer and he is not allowed to wear them. If RCS is going to go to a strict uniform dress code I wish they would quit messing around and just do it but be prepared to offer financial support to those who can not afford it.
